We’re happy to announce iodéOS 6, with many security and privacy improvements, available over-the-air through your updater.
iodéOS 6 is based on LineageOS 22, which itself is based on the Android Open Source Project’s Android 15. The latest version comes with many great features and improvements, such as “Private Space”, that lets you create a separate space on your device where you can keep sensitive apps away from prying eyes, under an additional layer of authentication.
iodéOS 6 also includes a new music app (Twelve) as well as an update of Seedvault, the backup tool integrated into the system. But that’s not all!
A new PDF reader: Camelot
At iodé, we take security very seriously. Since the default PDF viewer in iodéOS 5 (PdfViewerPlus) will no longer receive security updates, we’ve decided to bring in the Camelot PDF viewer, the default in LineageOS 22.
Startpage as the default search engine
The iodé browser is based on Firefox with telemetry disabled, trackers removed, and a variety of alternative search engines. We asked the community for feedback on which search engine should be included as the default, and Startpage search won, so iodéOS 6 will ship with the Startpage engine. As always, the iodé browser comes with a great diversity of search engine options, available by clicking on the left side of the search bar.
If the iodé browser doesn’t suit you, you can of course alternatively use F-Droid or Aurora store to install any browser you prefer: Firefox Focus, Brave, and Chromite are all good privacy-respecting options. And as always, any of the preinstalled apps in iodéOS can also be uninstalled.
If iodéOS 6 is not available for your device yet, don’t panic! We are planning on upgrading more devices to iodéOS 6 in the coming weeks and yours may benefit from the upgrade. In any case, we update on a monthly basis all devices running older iodéOS versions too so you can stay secure.
