We’re happy to announce the beta release of iodéOS 6, based on Android 15. It is available for Fairphone 4 and 5 as well as all Google Pixel devices, and we’ll be rolling out the rest of officially supported devices soon.
Changes in LineageOS 22 (based on Android 15)
iodéOS 6 is based on LineageOS 22, which itself is based on the Android Open Source Project’s Android 15. The latest version comes with all these great features and improvements, such as “Private Space”, that lets you create a separate space on your device where you can keep sensitive apps away from prying eyes, under an additional layer of authentication. iodéOS 6 also includes major updates to the music app (Twelve) as well as Seedvault, the backup tool integrated into the system.
A new pdf reader: Camelot
At iodé, we take security very seriously. Since the default pdf viewer in iodéOS 5 (PdfViewerPlus) will no longer receive security updates, we’ve decided to bring in the Camelot PDF viewer, the default in LineageOS 22.
New default search engine
Though the iodé browser comes with a great diversity of private search engine options, one has to be selected by default and we prefer to ask our users which to include. In past polls, Qwant won out, but after internal testing we decided to change it for better candidates. Please head over to the community forum and give us your opinion. You can vote for as many as you like. Here is a link to the poll.
