This July, iodéOS is rolling out one of its most impactful updates yet — and our beta testers are already exploring what’s new. Focused on functionality, freedom, and compatibility, this release includes major features our community has been asking for.
Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in beta now:
🚗 Android Auto Now Supported in iodéOS 6
Previously unavailable in iodéOS 6 (Android 15) due to Google’s reliance on proprietary services, Android Auto now works thanks to new integration efforts and clever workarounds. Android Auto runs using a lightweight Google stub app, which you can activate from the preinstalled apps menu.
Just plug in your phone or connect wirelessly to access maps, messages, music, and calls — all from your car’s dashboard.
Currently in beta — try it out and help us perfect it ahead of the official release!
📡 OpenEUICC: Replacing Google’s eSIM Management
iodéOS now supports OpenEUICC* — a fully open-source solution for managing eSIM profiles, offering a privacy-respecting alternative to Google’s proprietary eSIM provisioning system.
This integration allows users — in Europe and beyond — to manage their eSIMs independently of Google, making it especially useful for travelers and dual-SIM users. It supports downloading, switching, and removing eSIM profiles on compatible devices and carriers.
It’s a major step toward full mobile autonomy — and it’s already performing reliably in our internal testing.
*Currently not supported on OnePlus 11, Shift6mq, and Pixel 3.
✅ SafetyNet Compatibility Restored
SafetyNet support is back in iodéOS, enabling apps that rely on Google’s device certification — such as certain banking, streaming, and payment services — to work out of the box once again. This update significantly improves compatibility with apps that previously refused to run on degoogled systems, without compromising our core commitment to privacy. Behind the scenes, it’s made possible through a combination of MicroG enhancements and system-level tweaks designed for stability.
⚠️ While long-term SafetyNet support can never be guaranteed, we’re committed to maintaining it as best we can — without sacrificing your freedom.
📊 Preinstalled Navigation App Change
Since the beginning, we’ve used Magic Earth as our default navigation app. Recently, it became a paid app. More importantly, since it was never open source, it no longer aligns with our core value of prioritizing open source software for preinstalled apps.
As a result, we’ll be switching to an open source alternative in our next release.
We’ve created a poll with potential replacements — please vote and share your thoughts, including any pros and cons you think are worth mentioning.
Just a reminder: all our preinstalled apps are uninstallable. If an app is no longer included by default, you can always reinstall it later via F-Droid or Aurora Store.
